Erebus is a daily trivia game at erebus-trivia.com. This page explains what it stores about you, where, and what you can do about it. Questions go to andrew@sunn.day.
What's stored in your browser
Your progress (which facts you've seen, how well you recalled them, quiz scores, streaks and settings) is saved in your browser's local storage so the game works without an account. It stays on your device, and clearing your browser's site data deletes it.
What's stored in the cloud
To keep your progress across devices, the game signs you in anonymously with Google Firebase and copies your progress to Firebase's database (Cloud Firestore). An anonymous account is a random ID with no name or email attached.
If you choose to sign in with Google, Firebase also receives your Google account's name, email address and profile picture. These are used only to link your progress to your account. We don't email you, and we don't sell or share your details with anyone.
Advertising
Erebus shows ads served by Google AdSense, including occasional ads before quiz rounds. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technology to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on those visits.
You can turn off personalised ads in Google's Ad Settings, or opt out of many third-party ad networks at aboutads.info. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent first, and can change their choice at any time. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Other services
The site is hosted by Netlify, and its fonts come from Google Fonts. Like any web request, these see your IP address and browser details when the page loads.
Your choices
- Play without signing in with Google; your progress then has no name or email attached.
- Sign out on the Progress page, which clears the progress saved in that browser.
- Email andrew@sunn.day to get a copy of your cloud data or have it deleted. Tell us the email you signed in with, or, if you never signed in, roughly when you last played.
Children
Erebus isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has signed in with Google, email us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it.
